I have been in the fitness industry for over 20 years, and I am so grateful to have known my mission early on: to empower others to live their best, healthiest life through fitness and nutrition coaching. I am so thankful that I have been able to marry my passion with my career and still be present to my family. I got my degree in Exercise Science from Auburn University (War Eagle!) and went on to become a licensed massage therapist (something I didn't do for long, but taught me a TON about the human body and it taught me that I didn’t want to just help others feel better, I wanted to EMPOWER others!! I hold many certifications in fitness and nutrition but the main ones are AFAA, ACSM and Precision Nutrition. I have been leading group exercise since I was in college and LOVE to inspire others to push their limits - both mentally and physically. Teaching virtually has been a whole new experience for me, but I actually love it more than I thought I would! To be able to connect with people from all over the country (and even in other countries) has been incredible. I am motivated by IMPACT and I see Engage Fitness as a way to reach a much bigger audience, therefore creating a much bigger impact. I can’t wait to welcome to you Joan’s Fit Zone!

Fun Facts:

  • I am a mom of three girls, but you will normally see my furry kid the most during class. My doodle, Tucker, will often pop by my mat to say between burpees and lunges. He’s a mix between Golden Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, Lab and Poodle. 

  • I am a 2 wing 3 on the Enneagram. I am a Helper who is also goal-oriented and ambitious. I have been an entrepreneur most of my adult life, and ALL of my ventures have revolved around helping others. The Enneagram is an amazing tool to increase self-awareness, compassion for yourself and others, and can help interpersonal relationships to thrive. 

  • I am proud of the Protein Pancake: a simple, delicious and nutrition recipe that I have shared with thousands of people who have shared with many of their friends and family. It’s a perfect blend of protein and carbs, and top with some nut butter for a perfectly balanced meal that is easy to grab and go!

I joined Engaged Fitness back in Mid March and didn't know what to expect. I was in decent shape when I started but I soon found out what amazing shape she was in and I got my butt handed to me and still do (just not as bad). I cannot say enough about the Engage Fitness program and specifically Fit Zone by Joan! I have been motivated to get out of bed each day and do something for ME! I signed up for Engage Fitness to fill a gap during the temporary closure of my fitness center due to COVID-19, but what I gained was so much more than a workout program. Not only has Engage Fitness been both fun and challenging, but the encouragement I receive from the instructors (Joan, Amy C, etc.) is invaluable. During every class I am motivated to push myself  past my limitations, both mentally and physically. I continue to learn new ways to challenge my muscles, my mind and my spirit.  I have met new friends and have gotten to reconnect with old friends.It is a wonderful feeling to know that during these difficult times, when we feel isolated, we really are not because of the Engage Fitness Community. I can’t speak highly enough of Engage Fitness and the wonderful instructors who are now friends.
